Recruitment and training
DFMRT’s published training programme and route for prospective team members.

DFMRT says its annual training calendar covers the core skills needed for safe, controlled responses. It includes at least two evening sessions and one full-day practice each month. The ten published areas of competence are navigation, casualty care, equipment, searching, crag rescue, helicopters, command and control, communications, water rescue and driving.
The team says it welcomes applications from prospective members and usually holds interviews twice a year. Successful candidates follow a year-long training programme and are gradually introduced to live call-outs.
Applicants are expected to have good mountain experience in summer and winter, be able to navigate, and be self-sufficient and safe in likely conditions, including at night. The official page directs interested people to contact the team secretary for an initial conversation and an application form.
