In an emergency: Call 999, ask for Police, then Mountain Rescue

Emergency information

Emergency

Call 999, ask for Police, then Mountain Rescue

How to call Mountain Rescue

Before you call, make a note of:

  • your location, with a grid reference if possible
  • the name, gender and age of the casualty
  • the nature of the injuries or emergency
  • the number of people in your party
  • your mobile phone number

Dial 999 or 112, ask for the Police, then ask for Mountain Rescue.

Give all the details you have prepared and stay where you are until the rescue team contacts you. If you have to make a further 999 call, follow this procedure in full again.

If you have hearing or speech difficulties, you can contact the 999 emergency services by text. You can only use this service if you are already registered with emergencySMS, so register now rather than waiting for an emergency: text “register” to 999 and follow the instructions you are sent.

In an emergency, text 999. Your message should include “Police”, details of the incident and your location.
